13 Things 2013 Has Taught Me

9:00 AM

The year is coming to a close and now that it's almost over, it's time to reflect on my past victories and mistakes over the year. No matter what obstacle I tackled I learn more about myself.  Here are 13 things 2013 has taught me.

1. To Create Memories with the Mind not with Pictures

I swear some of the best moments in 2013 are not even photographed. I didn't make a Facebook status about it or Tweet about it, I just simply enjoyed it. I think stepping away from social media and enjoying the moment makes it worthwhile.

2. Being A Quitter Doesn't Define Me As a Quitter
I got my first job and I quit it. I never quit anything I start, but that was the first time I walked away from a job. Thanks to my wonderful mom, who encouraged me not to settle for a job that wasn't treating me fairly, I soon felt better about leaving the job. If God was able to bless me with a job, I'm sure he's able to bless me with something better, it doesn't matter how hard the economy is.

3. MY Lovely Silly Life
Too many times in my life, not just this year, I have compared my life to others. Often times their lives were better than mines. Comparing someone else's  life to mine did nothing but make me felt worse about my life. The lesson I learned is to recognize that there is something wonderful about my life even if I do not see it at the moment.

4. Positive
One of my favorite quotes by singer Pink: "If I could change one thing about myself, it would be the voices in my head. They don't like me."  The one voice I would like to change is the negative voice. I have always struggled with being positive especially when everything is going wrong. This year  I'm finally learning to be more positive.

5. I Love Movies More Than T.V.
I have to admit, this year I realized I prefer to watch a movie than to wait each week for a new episode of a T.V show. My favorite movie I watched this year was Flight.

6. I'm A Late Bloomer- And I'm Okay With It
Being an only child, you would think I get everything early, but I don't. I didn't get my first computer until I was 13 and  my first cell phone until college (I got my first smartphone this year). It used to bother me that everything I wanted I had to wait for, but when I finally get what I've waited for, it was really worth the wait.

7. I Like Homemade Rice Krispie Treats
Yes, 2013 taught me that homemade Rice Krispie Treats are so much better than store bought.

8. No Envy Of Relationships
When I see people on Facebook getting engaged, I used to be a little envious. Now, not an ounce of jealousy comes up. Even seeing girls brag about their "wonderful" boyfriend  doesn't phase me.

9. Yeah I'll Admit it, I'm a Girl With Little Clothes!
I use to feel left out about not having many clothes to choose from like most girls, but I'm okay with it now. I don't shop much and when I do I get little clothing. At least the little clothes I have are cute!

10. Maybe I Do Have A Radio Voice
Although I did not spend much time at the radio station as I should, I do like radio, maybe more than television. I use to be insecure about my voice, but now I don't have a problem with it at all.

11.  The Little Things
Going to McDonald and eating French Fries with ice cream is one moment in college I won't forget.  I realize the simplest things mean more to me.

12. I N D E P E N D E N T DO YOU KNOW THAT MEANS
I discovered this year that being independent isn't a bad thing. I bought my own cell phone and I pay the monthly bill. It's good to do something on my own without asking for help. P.S: I'm not one of those independent girls who says I don't need a man.

13. Self Pity Is A *Bleep!
This one thing I learned at the very end of the year. I felt sorry for myself too many times. I will say I'm still working on not feeling sorry for myself. This will be one of my 2014 New Year Resolutions.
